Municipal Waste Solutions to the Homefront

While traveling in Canada last summer, I ran across these waste disposal containers. They reminded me of the containers I've seen outside the entrances of numerous Whole Foods Markets. I appreciate what these containers are doing and teaching us to do as individuals. We should be separating our waste and trying to change our lifestyles toward being more conscious of what we throw away and how often. These containers remind me of my own lifestyle and choices and keep me under the impression that there are still organizations out there that separate the trash from the recyclables in order to have that much less  waste get piled on top of those giant heaps at the dumps on the outskirts of our towns. Whether or not that's true, I don't know.

 What I do know is that we need more of these containers everywhere. That's why I decided to blog about this. We should have these types of containers designed and integrated into more of our spaces. These should be installed in our break rooms at work, student unions on college campus, cafeterias in high school, and our own residential kitchens and garages. I'm going to start sketching out ideas on how to subtly integrate this kind of waste solution into some fresh kitchen designs. I encourage you all to do the same and try to figure out how you could work your own version of these containers into your personal space(s). Let us know how you do, and I'll hopefully post some of my sketched out ideas in the near future. Right now, I'm thinking of how to integrate the separated openings into a counter top....
